Wall Repair in Elizabeth, NJ

Cracks over the door, a hole behind the knob, nail heads popping through the paint. We repair the damage, match the texture and sand it smooth. We cover your floors before we start and tell you what we found before we fix it.

Repairing the Cause, Not Only the Mark

Wall repair handles the wear a lived-in room collects: a crack that returns, dents from moving day, a corner nicked by a hand truck, a soft patch where water got through. Nearly all of it is drywall, and nearly all of it can be fixed without removing the whole wall.

Before covering anything, we figure out why it happened. A crack running off a door frame corner usually points to a seam that was never taped properly or framing that shifted. Mud by itself will just crack again, so we cut it open, retape it and finish it to last.

New board for a whole room falls under drywall hanging. A single small hole is covered on our drywall patching page. Wall repair fills the space between the two, and it is what most people actually need.

What Our Wall Repair Covers

Crack repair with fresh tape
We open up the crack, clear the loose material and embed new paper or mesh tape. Then we feather out three coats of compound so the repair does not show a ridge.
Holes of any size
Small dings get filled. Doorknob holes and bigger breaks get a cut-in piece of drywall screwed to backing, then taped and finished.
Nail pops and loose seams
We drive in a screw next to each popped nail, pull the old head down and refinish. Bubbled or peeling tape gets cut out and replaced.
Damaged outside corners
Dented or rusted corner bead gets removed and replaced with new bead, then mudded and sanded straight.
Texture matching
Plenty of walls are not perfectly flat. We match the existing finish, smooth or light texture, so the patch reads as part of the wall.
Primer and paint touch-up
Bare compound soaks up paint differently. We prime the repair and do a paint touch-up on it if you have the leftover can or a color name.

When Your Walls Need Repair

  • Cracks off door and window corners

Older homes often get diagonal cracks at the corners of openings. Most of the time a weak seam is to blame and needs fresh tape.

  • Bumps or nail heads showing

Little circles coming through the paint mean nails worked loose as the framing dried out and shrank.

  • A doorknob hole

After the face paper tears, the gypsum breaks down more with each swing of the door. Repair it soon and put in a door stop.

  • Stains or soft areas from a leak

After the leak is fixed and the wall has dried, wet drywall usually has to be cut out. Paint over a stain and it comes back.

  • Dents, gouges and old anchor holes

Shifting furniture and removing shelves leave marks that catch light. A handful of them can make a whole room look worn.

What Happens on a Wall Repair Job

  1. 1

A call to go over it

Describe the damage and where it is. We ask a few questions and book a time to see it.

  2. 2

    An inspection and written estimate

We look at every spot, work out the cause and write down our plan. You see the full scope before work begins.

  3. 3

    Room protection comes first

We put drop cloths on the floor, move or cover furniture and hang plastic wherever dust might escape. You hear which rooms to keep clear.

  4. 4

    Coat, dry and sand

We tape and apply compound, give each coat time to dry, then sand it smooth. Because of drying time, a repair can need more than one visit, and you get the schedule at the start.

  5. 5

    Paint touch-up and cleanup

We prime, touch up the paint, vacuum the area and haul away the cloths and debris. Then we go through the room with you.

What Affects the Price of Wall Repair

No two walls are quite alike, so we quote after seeing yours. The written estimate lists every repair, so nothing on it is unexpected. These factors shift the price the most.

Number and size of repairs
A single crack is quick. Ten holes spread over three rooms needs more hours, more material and more rounds of drying.
What we find inside the wall
Wet insulation or a cracked stud must be handled before the wall is closed up. If we come across either, you will hear about it.
Wall texture
Smooth walls are easiest. Copying an older or heavier texture takes more care and can mean extra coats.
Getting the paint to match
With your leftover paint, a touch-up goes fast. Without it, matching a faded color is more work, and repainting the whole wall sometimes looks better.
Reaching the work
High stairwell walls call for ladders or planks. A crowded room takes longer to clear and cover.

Common Wall Repair Questions

Something not covered here? (908) 332-8943

Will I be able to see where you fixed it?

We aim for a repair you can't locate once it is painted. The compound is spread wide, the texture is matched and we sand until it feels flat. Paint sheen and fading can make a new touch-up look a little off in side light, and if we expect that, we tell you before we start.

Will there be much dust?

Sanding throws fine dust, so floors and furniture get covered and doorways get plastic when needed. We vacuum the work area every evening. Most customers find very little dust makes it past the room.

Why can't it be done in one day?

Each coat of compound must dry before the next, and hurrying causes shrinking and cracks. Quick-setting mud sometimes lets a small repair finish in one visit. Larger ones usually take two or three short trips, scheduled with you.

Water leaked behind my wall. Can you repair it now?

First the water source has to be fixed and the wall must dry out completely. Then we cut away the damaged drywall, look for anything still wet behind it and put in new board. Sealing up a wet wall just creates problems later.

Can landlords and property managers hire you?

Yes. We fix walls in rentals in Elizabeth and close-by towns such as Linden and Roselle. We can arrange access with your tenant and send you photos when the work is finished.
